Only a fragment of a jaw has been found from Pakakali. Yet, this small piece of bone is enough for scientists to classify it among the hyaenodontids, carnivores from the Paleogene and Neogene periods, now extinct. Pakakali lived at the end of the Oligocene and was the size of a lynx.
